Depression Signs

One of my early depression signs (mostly, its never the same or easy...) is losing words.
Easy ones I use all the time is what I look out for...
"Hey Marge, hand me that thing you use to dig, food. Spoon? Yea, gimmy gimmy..."
What do you look for?

Tiredness. No energy. They are my first indicators. 😪

Then teariness. I'll cry watching a commercial that has cute animals in it. I'm sobbing if the show I'm watching has a touching moment. :cry3:

Then bad dreams. Not the scary sort (usually) but the deep sadness of losses whether real or just dreamed up. I feel heartbroken when I wake up. :heartbreak:

Then I might get frustrated or angry at my life and what a failure I am.

After all these things have happened, and I haven't turned it around with medication, exercise, socialising or an appointment with my doctor, then I know I'm in for a decent depression.

I haven't tied teariness to depression. I definitely get it though!
Sometimes, when daddy chops the dinosaur, I just cant go on...

I relate to most of those symptoms . I also start to google symptoms and 'cures' more often when I'm not well and go into unhelpful 'story patterns' where I don't take as much responsibility for things going wrong.

Hi Caroline,
If I may ask, what do you mean by "story patterns" and responsibility..... are they big story patterns and life things or minor things - what might be an example?

The reason I ask is that (I was diagnosed a year ago), and sometimes I feel like my diagnosis is wrong and I'm just hoping to have a mental illness, so that I don't have to take responsibility for my life. (although having said that, I have done lots of things and am proactive..... but still have this dialogue about not taking responsibility.....anyway bla bla babble babble.......) - just interested in your insights, seeing as you mentioned this.....
thanks,
Mel

Story patterns for example “ a story I repeatedly tell myself that might not be helpful such as “ I’m totally unloveable” “ or I might never work again, or my least favourite “ I’m too complicated”. These are not present when I’m well.
